Director, Public Library System, Miami-Dade County
Ray Baker has had his hand in changing the Library landscape locally in Miami. Recently implementing the Miami-Dade Public Library System’s (MDPLS) strategic five-year plan, the Library of today will greatly evolve weaving innovation and community engagement every step of the way. He was appointed MDPLS Director in June 2017, having served as Interim Director since February 2017 and Assistant Director prior to that. Ray is instrumental in the planning and implementation of library services for a 50 branch public library system with a service area of nearly 2.5 million residents. During his tenure as Assistant Director, he was responsible for public service operations that included MDPLS’s digital learning (YOUmedia) and makerspace centers (YOUmake), mobile library service operations, and MDPLS’s library technology initiatives. Ray understands and embraces the role technology has in transforming the Library patron experience and is leading the effort in taking us there.
