John Murphy grew up in Melbourne, Australia and commenced his career as an intern with the North Melbourne Kangaroos Australian Rules Football Club in 2006, fulfilling a number of roles before departing as General Manager – Marketing in March 2013. He joined Motorsport Australia, the FIA member club and governing body for motorsport in Australia as General Manager – Membership & Development and in 2015 was appointed the organization’s Commercial Director, overseeing all membership, licensing, sport development, IT, Media, digital and commercial operations. As part of this role, John also developed and delivered training and consulting projects for motorsport federations across the Asia Pacific region on behalf of Motorsport Australia and the FIA’s ASN Development Taskforce. John moved to New York in March 2019 and established a consultancy business through which he has worked with a variety of private businesses and sporting organizations including the F1 Vietnam Grand Prix and more recently the inaugural F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix. He commenced work with the Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix in September 2021 in the lead-up to the inaugural event as a consultant to the Sporting team, advising on race organization, safety and medical, before taking the role as Sporting Director for the 2023 event. John recently moved to Miami with his family and commenced a full-time role as Vice President – Sporting and Race Operations for the Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix, overseeing the on-track elements of the event. He holds a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) from Monash University and an MBA from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.
