Brian Fonseca

Brian Fonseca is Vice Provost for Defense and National Security Research at Florida International University and Director of the Jack D. Gordon Institute for Public Policy. He is also the founding Executive Director of Cybersecurity@FIU, an interdisciplinary university-wide program. Fonseca serves as a Cybersecurity Policy Fellow and International Security Fellow at the think tank New America. His work has appeared in local, national, and international media, and he is an on-air political analyst for WSVN-Fox News in South Florida. He testified before the U.S. Congress in 2019 and 2021. His publications include Culture and National Security in the Americas (2017), Democracy and Security in Latin America (2021), and The New US Security Agenda: Trends and Emerging Threats (2017). His research focuses on U.S. and Latin American governance, national security, and foreign policy, with emphasis on Venezuela, China, Russia, and cyberspace.Before joining FIU, he served as Senior Research Manager for Socio-Cultural Analysis at U.S. Southern Command’s Joint Intelligence Operations Center South. Fonseca holds degrees from FIU and studied at Sichuan University and the National Defense University.
