Melissa Smith is the co-head of Commercial Banking (CB) at J.P. Morgan. She leads a dynamic business that supports more than 70,000 clients across 154 locations in the U.S. and Canada, providing support for companies and organizations that are vital to our economy and local communities. In her previous role as head of Specialized Industries and co-head of Innovation Economy, Melissa led a team of bankers who have deep industry expertise and serve the needs of clients across healthcare, higher education, not-for-profit, government, technology, disruptive commerce and internet, life sciences and more. Melissa spent much of her career in J.P. Morgan’s Corporate & Investment Banking business, including as the head of EMEA Investment Grade Finance in London. Prior to her move to the U.K., she spent 14 years in the Debt Capital Markets group in New York as the head of the consumer, retail, healthcare and chemicals team. She joined the firm in 1998. Melissa received a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from American University and a master’s degree in Public Policy from the University of Chicago. She is the current Treasurer for the American Ballet Theatre’s Board of Trustees, of which she has been a member since 2009.
