John Couris is the President and CEO of the Florida Health Sciences Center, comprising a portfolio of 30+ organizations, including Tampa General Hospital. Under Couris’ leadership, Tampa General, in partnership with USF Health, has grown into one of the nation’s top academic health systems, delivering the full spectrum of care from wellness visits to the most complex critical care to residents in communities across the Sunshine State. Powered by 15,000 dedicated team members and providers — and in collaboration with leading partners like Mass General Brigham — TGH is making world-class health care more accessible and improving lives for all Floridians. Couris is recognized as a national expert in the health care industry, organizational leadership and workplace culture transformation. In January 2026, he was appointed by the White House to serve as a member of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Advisory Council on Alzheimer’s Research, Care, and Services. In 2024, Senator Kathleen Passidomo appointed him to a three-year term on the Florida Health Care Innovation Council. Most recently, Couris was recognized as one of Modern Healthcare’s 2025 “100 Most Influential People in Healthcare,” placing him among the nation’s most innovative and prominent leaders shaping the future of health care. Couris holds a doctorate in business administration, management sciences, from the University of South Florida Muma College of Business, where he is a Research Fellow.
