Hannah Mae Merten is executive director of strategy for Speros, where she leads strategic initiatives spanning real estate, economic development, and placemaking to shape the 775-acre campus into a collaborative hub for partners and people committed to curing cancer and improving lives. Serving as chief of staff and a key execution partner to Josh Carpenter, president of Speros, Merten works to build a people centric, human scale campus that advances cancer prevention and cures while strengthening the innovation economy across the Tampa Bay region and the Southeast. Merten brings more than a decade of experience in impact oriented real estate and place based investment. Previously, she held senior roles at Bedrock Detroit and Rock Ventures, supporting large scale urban redevelopment and innovation driven economic growth. Her career also includes advising public private partnerships in Boston, launching investment strategies for underserved U.S. markets with CrossBoundary Advisory, and shaping housing policy as a Michael S. Dukakis Fellow in the Colorado Governor’s Office. Merten holds joint master’s degrees from Harvard Business School and Harvard Kennedy School, along with multiple degrees from the University of Denver, including a master’s degree in international development and global health affairs.
