David C. Thoma, DO, is a board-certified musculoskeletal radiologist and healthcare innovation leader with over 20 years of experience spanning military, academic, and private practice medicine. He currently serves as Section Chief for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs National Teleradiology Program (NTP), where he leads enterprise imaging operations focused on advancing veteran care through clinical excellence and innovation. Dr. Thoma is a fellowship-trained MSK radiologist and former U.S. Army physician with extensive operational and leadership experience. His prior roles include Chief of MRI at Tripler Army Medical Center, where he oversaw MRI operations, service line expansion, and installation of advanced imaging systems, as well as Assistant Program Director for the Diagnostic Radiology Residency. He also served as Diagnostic Services Chief (Imaging) at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany during Operation Enduring Freedom from 2011 to 2013, and as Battalion Surgeon for the 8th Army in the Republic of Korea. In addition, he has contributed to the development of U.S. Army policy development. Dr. Thoma has worked closely with professional athletes and high-performance populations, and has been actively involved in education, providing board review for orthopedic surgery residents at Tripler Army Medical Center and delivering lectures and clinical consultations at the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in Gulf Breeze, Florida. His work focuses on advancing musculoskeletal imaging, injury prevention, and performance optimization through innovative MRI applications and collaborative clinical research.
