This mind-stimulating, adrenaline-fueled event attracted over 125 coders last year and is sure to be even more exciting at eMerge Americas 2018. Hackathon participants have 24 hours to tackle complex challenges presented by industry-leading API sponsors. The reward? Thousands in prizes—and the thrill of building something amazing from the ground up. It’s also a wonderful opportunity for computer programmers and other software development professionals to collaborate on a project in a creatively-charged environment.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

As a participant, you will receive a complimentary Tech Pass. On the day of the hackathon, be sure to come prepared with everything you need for the full 24 hours. Food will be provided. Winners will be announced on center stage of the EXPO floor.

  • What is the eMerge Americas Hackathon?

    The eMerge Americas Hackathon is the official hackathon of the eMerge Americas Conference. Teams will have 24 hours to build their project and present their demos to a panel of judges to compete for thousands in cash and prizes.

  • When is it?

    The Registration for the Hackathon opens on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 8am on. The Hacking begins at 10am and ends the following day, Sunday, April 22, 2018 at 10am.

  • How do I register?

  • What does it cost?

    Nothing! Zero, zilch, nada!

  • What should I bring?

    Your laptop, charger, and any other electronics you may need for the actual hacking part of the hackathon…. and, for the sake of comfort: comfy clothes, a pillow, a blanket, and anything else you may need for a 24 hour hacking stretch.

  • Will there be prizes?

    Yes! Thousands in prizes.

  • What size can the teams be?

    Company teams can up to 5 members. Individual registrations (outside of a company team) will be informed how to create their teams after they submit their code challenge.

  • What if I don’t have a team?

    You are welcome to sign up as an individual and based on your code challenge you will be sent a firm acceptance or denial from the hackathon. If accepted, you will have an opportunity to create a team with other individuals whom have also been accepted. Further directions on this process will be released to those who have been accepted.

  • Will food be provided?

    Yes, lots of food and beverages will be provided. Expect lots of snacks, drinks, and caffeine!

  • Can I leave during the Hackathon?

    No. Just kidding! If you (and your teammates) think a nap at your house or a quick trip to Krispy Kreme will help your team, by all means- go for it. The development, however, needs to be done on premise.

  • Do I need to be a developer or have hackathon experience to join?

    You don’t need hackathon experience to join, but as an individual registration you do need to accept and complete our code challenge.

  • If I’m a developer, what technologies should I look forward to using in the hackathon?

    There are absolutely no restrictions on the technologies that you can use. You could build a Web application, a mobile app, a hardware hack, a robot, whatever captivates your imagination that uses your technology, computer science and/or engineering skills. Our sponsors,VISA and Kairos, will provide APIs which you can include in your projects for a chance to win further prizes.

  • What if my team gets stuck?

    We’ll be there along the way to support all the teams with any challenges they may face. Wyncode will have a team of developers on the floor who will act as mentors and will resolve any issues you may have.

  • Can I go to other eMerge events?

    Yes – all Hackathon participants receive a Tech Pass to the eMerge Americas conference just for participating in the hackathon.

  • Can I sleep during the hackathon?

    Yep! We’ll have a quiet room set specifically for people who would like to take naps (long or short) during the hackathon. Just make sure to ask one of your teammates to wake you up!

  • What are the judging criteria?

    Your team will be evaluated based your project, your presentation and by your interactions with the judges during the event. Several factors will be considered by the judges, such as innovation, user experience, implementation and others.
