Christina Potter, PhD, is a Manager of IT Digital Technology at Nicklaus Children’s Health System in Miami, FL and a doctor of Experimental Psychology. In 2010, she obtained a BSc with dual majors in Psychology and Chemistry from the University of Miami. Here she worked in two psychology research laboratories focusing on the separate topics of child development and the psychosocial effects of a prostate cancer diagnosis on a family unit. She then took a role as a Clinical Research Associate at Brown University/Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence, RI, where her passion for working with children in a hospital setting flourished. In 2013, she moved to England to begin a PhD in Experimental Psychology at the University of Bristol. Her research explored intervention techniques to reduce obesity in children as well as the determinants of successful intermittent fasting behavior for weight loss in adults. In 2018, she moved to Oxford, UK to work as a Postdoctoral Researcher exploring techniques to promote behavior change towards eating more sustainable, plant-based foods in adults, such as eco-labelling. Here she learned best practice for conducting systematic reviews and meta-analyses in clinical research. She had the opportunity to present her work at national and international conferences across 8 countries and to publish over a dozen peer-reviewed articles during this time. In 2021, she returned to Florida for the exciting opportunity to work at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami. Through a series of successful research grants, Dr. Potter created the NCHS virtual reality program, the virtual reality DRIVE Program, the bedside gaming program, and patient iPad program. She also founded the Digital Innovation Team and the staff Innovation Ambassador program, both of which are responsible for implementing new technologies. Dr. Potter hopes to make positive changes in the lives of children and young adults, through culture change at the institution level, the implementation of robust research, and the use of innovative digital technologies.
