Paul A. Pavlou serves as the Dean and Leonard Miller University Professor at the Miami Herbert Business School, University of Miami. Paul’s research was cited over 100,000 times and was recognized as the World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds by Thomson Reuters based on an analysis of “Highly Cited” authors. He was ranked #1 for publications in the top Information Systems journals, 2010 to 2016. Paul holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration (Information Systems) and a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, conferred Magna Cum Laude, from Rice University. As Dean of the Miami Herbert Business School, Paul A. Pavlou leads an institution dedicated to shaping principled, impactful leaders through world-renowned faculty and the vibrancy of Miami. Under his leadership, Miami Herbert envisions to become a Top 20 business school, offering a personalized, transformative experience aimed at lifelong career success. Under his leadership, the faculty ranked #2 globally in research productivity per capita by the Financial Times. The school’s programs also received many national acclaims with many programs being ranked among the top in the country for the first time, including #12 in Real Estate and #20 in International Business in the U.S. News & World Report 2025 rankings. The Entrepreneurship program climbed to #16 (Princeton Review), while the MBA program ranked among the Top 50 by Bloomberg Businessweek. Miami Herbert also ranked #3 in custom executive education programs by the Financial Times, underscoring the school’s commitment to lifelong learning. Earlier, Paul served as Dean and Cullen Distinguished Chair Professor at the C. T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston. During his tenure, Bauer College led all business schools by climbing 34 spots in the US News rankings to become a Top 50 MBA program, ascended 41 spots in the Online Masters programs, and joined the Top 15 public undergraduate programs by Poets&Quants. It was ranked as the #1 entrepreneurship program by The Princeton Review for five (5) years in a row. Bauer College grew 40% to over 8,000 full-time students, raising retention to 97%, 6-year graduation to 92%, and job placement to 99% with an average starting salary of $70,000. Paul helped raise over $150,000,000 in philanthropic gifts and commitments during his tenure at Bauer College. He also served as co-chair of the university Athletics committee that helped the University of Houston join the Big 12. Paul is a Distinguished Fellow of the INFORMS Information Systems Society. He won several Best Paper awards for his research, including the Sheth Foundation award for “Long-Term Contributions to Marketing” published in the Journal of Marketing (2019), the Maynard Award for the “Most Significant Contribution to Marketing” in the Journal of Marketing (2015), the Information Systems Research Best Paper award (2007), and the IS Publication of the Year award (2006). He also won the Best Paper award (2012), the Runner-Up to the Best Paper (2005), the Best Interactive Paper (2002), and the Best Student Paper award (2001) from the Academy of Management. Paul received over $3,500,000 in grants from funding agencies, such as the National Science Foundation (NSF), including a new $1,500,000 NSF grant in 2021 to study energy disruption. His research appeared journals such as Management Science, Information Systems Research (ISR), MIS Quarterly (MISQ), Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of the Association of Information Systems (JAIS), and Decision Sciences. His research spans several disciplines (information systems, data science, marketing, strategy, operations, management sciences) with emphasis on data science, artificial intelligence, business analytics, digital strategy, and research methods. Paul also won several Reviewer awards, including the 2009 Management Science Meritorious service award, the ‘Best Reviewer’ award of the 2005 Academy of Management Conference, and the prestigious 2003 MISQ ‘Reviewer of the Year’ award as PhD student. Paul is currently Senior Editor at ISR and earlier at MISQ and JAIS. Finally, Paul won the Best Doctoral Dissertation award at the 2004 International Conference on Information Systems. Paul serves on the Boards of the Texas Medical Center Venture Fund, Cadence Bank, the Cougar Venture Fund, and the Scientific Advisory Board of Tilburg University, among others.
