
Johanna Mikkola
Vice-President & General Manager, BrainStation Miami
Johanna Mikkola is the Vice-President and General Manager of BrainStation Miami and the former CEO and Co-Founder of Wyncode Academy. In early 2021, Wyncode was acquired by BrainStation, the global leader in digital skills training, which has trained over 100,000 professionals in more than 90 countries. BrainStation is on a mission to train 1 million professionals by 2025, and Johanna leads the company’s ambitious expansion in the fast-growing Florida market.
Johanna was selected as an Endeavor Entrepreneur in June 2015, joining a prestigious, select network of the most high-impact entrepreneurs around the globe. Johanna is an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Babson College’s WIN LAB, a founding member of the Miami chapter of the Female Founder Collective, and a board member of Tech Hub South Florida. She is also a member of Entrepreneur’s Organization. She was selected as Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s female leader in technology and was a finalist for Entrepreneur of the Year. The South Florida Business Journal also named Johanna as a Top 40 Under 40 as well as Influential Female Business Leader.
Johanna is passionate about people and places. Having considered multiple cities to launch Wyncode, she and co-founder Juha Mikkola enthusiastically chose Miami for the opportunity to make a positive impact on its growing ecosystem. She is an advocate for Women in Tech, promoting BrainStation’s goal to close the gap for women in STEM. She has spoken at TEDx Miami about the importance of diverse teams and How to hire the right tech talent.
Before launching Wyncode in 2014, Johanna spent a decade in corporate management with the National Hockey League, becoming the highest-ranking female in her department’s history. There she led a team of managers as well as overseeing the business operations of the officiating department, managing the largest departmental budget within the organization.
Johanna holds an honors Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Economics from the University of Toronto. In 2007 she represented Canada as a forward at the World Floorball Championships.
