Dr. Elam is an entrepreneur and scholar with over 25 years of experience in both life sciences and information technology markets. She currently leads an early-stage, medical diagnostics company in the Research Triangle Park, NC, in addition to serving as Director of Research at the Babson College Center for Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership (CWEL). Dr. Elam’s research focuses on the application of social theories and rigorous research methodologies to the people and processes involved in the launch and early growth stages of new business ventures. Her published research on gender and cross-national differences in new venture creation can be found in several top journals in the field of management and entrepreneurship, as well in her book, Gender and Entrepreneurship: A Multi-level Theory and Analysis, and in public reports for the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor and, most recently, for Oxfam America (Understanding Structural Barriers and Hidden Bias in Access to Credit for Women-Led Businesses).
